Bonjour! As long as I can remember I was discovering my creativity and expressing myself through the arts. I always loved to draw, paint and was a competitive dancer for many years, and it does not come as a surprise that I ended up creating jewellery. I have always possessed a passion for flare, and jewellery lets me shine! As far as jewellery making goes; it all started when my dear Aunt Lisa introduced me to the world of basic beading. I fell in love with the art and my journey began in 2005, through many hours of self learning. I’ve taken several courses in recent years, including silversmith classes, glass fusing, pearl knotting, wire wrapping, and wire crochet. Family and my love of creating were the driving forces behind my decision to leave a cozy job in the sales world to start Mon Petit Bijou. It was an easy decision, as I knew it would enable me to spend more time with my husband and children, and enjoy working on something I truly love – creating chic jewellery!
In some ways I think I am paying homage to my Meme (grandmother) who, from my earliest memories, was always creating. Whether out of the need to take care of her family of fifteen children or out of pure joy, creating has always been a part of my world.
Today, that devotion to family continues as I’ve honoured my family members and friends by creating classic wedding designs in their names. They are the ones who continue to support and inspire me on this endeavour.
Even though inspired by my family, I like to think that I make jewellery appealing to everyone – brides, kids, moms, business women, single ladies, etc. I love to make custom pieces for those special or simple everyday moments. My passion is finding the right mix of colour, texture and stones to fit the personality of my client. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone’s face light up when they find that special piece.
My company’s name origin "Mon Petit Bijou" (meaning My Little Jewel) was my husband’s idea. He knew that I wished for a French name due to part of my heritage, but most importantly thought of the name because when I used to travel for Sales extensively in Canada and the USA, what I would always say to him before I left was "take care of the diamonds", meaning my children!
